Spring Reading Thing 2009

It’s time once again for the Spring Reading Thing hosted by Katrina at Callapidder Days!

The challenge runs from March 20th to June 20th. Pick some books and then read them in that time. Pretty simple, heh?

I seem to have lost my reading mojo. I’m not reading nearly as much as I used to and I’m not entirely sure what I can do to my schedule to carve out more reading time.

Not coincidentally, my list is going to be much shorter than in challenges past. And I’m staying away from non-fiction. It feels too much like work right now.

Without further do…

  1. The Pearl (John Steinbeck) – I never would have picked this out for myself.  I was at the library with Emma looking for Nicholas Sparks books when Emma grabbed it and put it in the backpack.  I didn’t realize I got it until we got home…
  2. Nights in Rodanthe (Nicholas Sparks) – I think I will always have a Sparks book on my list.
  3. Emma (Jane Austen) – Like most books-to-movies, I’ve seen the movie but haven’t read the book.  Plus, it’ll help me knock off #58 on my Bucket List.
  4. The Magician’s Nephew (C.S. Lewis) – This’ll help with #59…
  5. Salem Falls (Jodi Picoult) – She is another constant on my book list.

That’s it.  5 books.  I’d like to read more, but we’ll start here and see how far I get!

I am also a fan of Jane Austen and the Narnia series, and I’ve enjoyed some of Jody Picoult’s books. Great list! And I LOVE your Bucket List.

  3. Good luck reclaiming your mojo! I love Jodi Picoult too. I haven’t read The Pearl since – hmm, maybe high school? – but I remember being drawn in by it.

  4. The Magician’s Nephew is one of my favorites! Good choice!

  5. I love Jane Austen. I think I have read most of her books but I have not seen all the movies. I need to check them out! 🙂

  6. I usually enjoy Jodi Picoult, but I haven’t read Salem Falls yet. Looks interesting. And I think The Magician’s Nephew was my favorite of the Chronicles of Narnia. Enjoy your spring reading, and thanks for being part of the challenge!

  7. How did you pick “Emma” over the others? With Austen, it’s so hard to pick just one! LOL

And, I used to teach “The Pearl” to 10th graders. Spent a lot of time extolling its virtues. It’s an oldie but goodie, full of good hidden “nuggets” if you’re willing to be patient!

    Good luck!

  8. I just re-read The Pearl. I’ve been picking up books that I HAD to read in high school (and hated) to see if they were better now. And they are! 🙂 I’ve read The Pearl and Of Mice and Men. Need to get my hands on The Grapes of Wrath.

  9. I love Sparks his books always get me so hooked. I haven’t read one in a while I need to pick out a new one to read 🙂

  10. I loved the movie Nights in Rodanthe, if it is anything like the book, you will enjoy it!

  11. Just K

I loved Nights in Rodanthe. I have yet to see the movie.
