Yesterday was a perfect day to run/walk a 5k! We’ve been signed up for quite a while for the Run the ‘Hood Virtual 5k put on by The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans and we were so excited to finally get it done.
As soon as we walked in the door from Jake and Emma’s gymnastics, we geared up and headed out the door…
Jacob was a little disappointed that there would be no “official” start line and finish line, so we created our own with some pink chalk on the sidewalk.
We came up with a game plan that we would all stay together for the entire 5k.
That lasted for approximately .05 miles. Emma decided she wanted nothing to do with running, so I stayed with her while Dave and Jake ran ahead. Emma has been fighting a cold for a few days (she actually had a 103 temperature on Thursday night), and pretty much wanted to walk as slowly as possible.
I dragged her She pushed through, though. She kept talking about wishing she could catch up to Dave, but she had no energy left to actually try. Dave and Jake passed us on their way back…we were at about mile 1 or 1.25.
Dave and Jake finished in 39:51. He said their run was pretty uneventful, he talked to Jake a lot about form and going out too fast.
When Dave got home, he ran inside, grabbed the camera, and recreated got this shot of Jake crossing the finish line.
While they waited for Emma and I to finish up, Jake decided to make a little sign for us to see when we got back. (It’s hard to see, but it says “Yay Mommy and Emma.”)
When we were almost done, I looked down and saw that Emma was actually walking with her eyes closed. I guess she was a little more worn out than I thought. We came around the corner and there was Dave with the camera ready.
We finished in 1:02:00. Here’s a picture of me coming across the finish line…
And here’s one of Emma. Wait a second…
Oh. There she is…
Overall, we had a blast. Jake even made some noises about doing the Turkey Trot 5k with me on Thanksgiving morning. I think that would be a lot of fun.

Love your kids and their antics! They remind me of kiddo! Great job!!
Great run / walk! She’s a trooper for making it all the way while not feeling well!
