Young Love

Yesterday, Emma said to me, “Mommy, do you think my boyfriend will be in my new class?”

Like any good mother would, I asked, “Which boyfriend do you mean?”

She’s a heartbreaker, even at 6.

She said, “Mommmyyy! BillyBobJoeJackson!”*

I responded, “Oh, right! What happened to JohnJamesMarkerBoy?”**

She said, “Mommmmyyy! I broke up with him! My boyfriend is BillyBobJoeJackson!”

Right. Silly Me. What was I thinking? BillyBobJoeJackson it is!

Later, she and Jacob continued the conversation…

She said, “Jacob, do you know if BillyBobJoeJackson will be in my class? He’s my boyfriend.”

Jacob shot back with “How should I know?!? Do you know who my girlfriend is?”

Emma said, “Well, yeah! Actually, no.”

And Jacob exclaimed “It’s EsmeraldaMariaJanetJo!”***

EsmereldaMariaJanetJo has been Jacob’s main squeeze since Kindergarten. She’s so stinkin’ cute, I could stick her in my back pocket.

My first crush was on a boy named Alexander Hamilton. That was his real name. I feel confident typing it here because if you do a search on the name Alexander Hamilton, I’m pretty sure it’ll direct you to a much more famous man by that name.

Do you remember your first crush??

*name changed to protect the privacy of that kid

**also not his real name, but she got mad at him once and drew on his head with black marker, so I thought it was a fitting pseudonym

***coming up with fake names is hard

Yes, it is hard coming up with fake names, unless they are names you use frequently!
