Fitness Friday – HOLY CRAP!

Ahhhh, Fitness Fridays. It seems like we have been having a love/hate relationship lately, don’t you think? I’ve been excited to come report the good things…reluctant to come report the bad things…and yet you have stood by me the whole time. I love you so, Fitness Fridays.

(Brief interlude where I consider deleting that paragraph because it seems to make no sense at all.)

The Saga of the Knee continues, friends. I finally went to the orthopedist this week. I figured 3 months was long enough to go without seeing a noticeable improvement.

The good news is, my self diagnosis of pes anserine bursitis was spot on. The better news is, I was doing everything I was supposed to do as far as treatment (ice, anti-inflammatories, rest). The bad news is, it wasn’t working.

The doctor (who I loved) said it was probably time for a cortisone shot. I was actually expecting that to happen, so I had already come to terms with having to have a needle stuck into me. It didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would, but OHMYGOD later that night I was screwed up. I had trouble walking up the stairs, even. I was NOT prepared for that.

So, I got the shot, and a prescription for a different kind of anti-inflammatory, and was told to “play it by ear” with the running. Ugh. I’m not a play-it-by-ear kinda girl. I like plans, directives, outlines. But I’m trying my best. There has been less pain, but I have not ventured out on a run yet (despite my tweet from yesterday).

Which is kind of O.K., because this is my first official week of Olympic triathlon training, so I’ve got other activities I need to start working in. And I am proud to say that out of 4 workouts, I’ve gotten 1 in.

Yeah, that’s not good…for Week 1, especially.

Dumbdumbdumbdumbdumbdumbdumb.

Here’s to hoping that my hamstring loosens up which will make the inflammation go down which will make the pain go away which will make it easier to train which will make it easier to NOT DIE during the triathlon.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Because I don’t have quite enough going on physically? My October race is going to be a half marathon. BECAUSE I LOVE PAIN!

To recap:

  • My bum knee is still dumb, but hopefully on the mend.
  • My Olympic triathlon is 10 weeks away (ohmygod I thought it was further away than that…vomit.)
  • My October race is my first half marathon.
  • I love pain.
  • But really, I don’t, because I’m a big wimp. I got a foot cramp while I was dancing around last weekend. Seriously. BIG WIMP.

  1. the only thing worse than “stop training” was hearing the doctor say “do what you feel okay doing” very difficult orders to follow.

  2. hope the shot makes it better! Remember to relax and BREATHE!!

  3. catching up….whats the word NOW?
    the pain levels?

    all that :)
