Stomp, Stomp, Clap, Clap, HOWL!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wait. That’s not right. So I’m a little behind. Story of my life.

Thanksgiving around these parts was largely uneventful which is to say it was GLORIOUS! We got up in the morning, headed to the 1k/5k, ran it out, cooked some food, ate it up, visited some friends, and then crashed into a food coma.

On Friday, we headed into Williamsburg to Great Wolf Lodge. We had been to something similar when we lived in Ohio, so Dave and I knew what to expect. Mostly.

The place was huge. HUGE!!

The kids had a blast. Mostly. Emma didn’t like it so much when we had to leave the water area so we could do silly things like eat and go to the bathroom.

We had to divide and conquer because there were slides that Emma was not tall enough to go on. So, I mostly hung out with her in the shallower areas, and Dave and Jake rode the water slides 537 times. Each.

The other thing that the hotel offered (for a separate low, low fee of an arm and a leg) was something called MagiQuest. Basically you buy a wand, the hotel activates it, and then you wander around the hotel on a little magical scavenger hunt. The wand makes things light up and talk and stuff.

That’s not a very good description, but the kids loved it. Jacob actually skipped the water area on the last day so that he could finish up the game. There was talk of defeating dragons and goblins. I don’t know. I was in the Lazy River with Emma.

But she kept calling it the Exhausted River so I’m thinking it was more of a workout for her. Silly girl wouldn’t use an inner-tube.  Evidently she has not mastered the bump-on-a-log tendencies that I’ve been trying to teach her.

We finished up the weekend with a quick stop in Colonial Williamsburg. There wasn’t much doing there because we didn’t buy tickets, but we did have a really cool lunch in one of the taverns. There was a musician who was traveling around the dining room and he dedicated a song to Jacob…”The Red-Haired Boy”.

And then we came home and life went back to normal. Which is to say that on Monday, Dave got up at 4:30am to go to work, Emma refused to get dressed for school, Jacob was yelling and fighting with me about doing his homework, and I did 57 loads of laundry.

Ah, the sweet post-vacation life.

  1. It’s amazing how fun a vacation can feel only to have reality smack you in the face. Good luck on that laundry!

  2. Sounds like a great mini-vacation!! And then life back to normal for mom!!
