I’m all about exposing the kids to all types of music. Mostly it’s for my own sanity. One can only take so much Little People singing I’m a Little Teapot.
But now that the kids are starting to sing some of the lyrics back to me, I am starting to see the error of my ways. Here are some recent songs we’ve heard sung around the house:
- Jake singing Queen’s “Fat Bottom Girls”
- Emma singing Queen’s “Body Language”
- Emma singing “Mama, I’m a Big Girl Now” from the Hairspray soundtrack
I already skip the songs with cussing in them (I’m not that stupid), but it may be time to start listening to all the lyrics of the songs that we have going on in the car!
Yeah, I had the same epiphany when Aaron fell in love with the soundtrack fro mama Mia. As fun as it is to listen to, there definately were parts that a four year old shouldn’t be singing all the time. I STRONGLY recommend Go Fish. Excellent music that rocks but is completely appropriate for kids. Check out their website for samples.
I had to laugh reading your post, my daughter use to want to hear a personalized CD she was give with her name interjected into every song which drvoe me nuts, but since we went to an Irish Music group on St. Patrick’s Day and her Grandpa bought her the CD, she only wants to listen to this! The most amusing part of it is she calles it “Arrrrr music”, like a pirate. And the whole CD is about drinking and sailing, oh boy. The one song she loves and asks for over and over is of course the one song I cannot stand! Go figure.
Kids are little sponges alright. I so remember.
Have a terrific day Thea.
Yikes… NOT good…
And I second the Go Fish thing. We have one of their CDs and they are fabulous non-insulting Christian kids stuff. Awesome harmonies.
Laurie Berkner’s always a good choice, too! I actually sing along with the kids! I’ve had to start watching what I listen to as well since BJ is a sponge!
LOL too funny, pretty soon, you’ll have their music in there and you will be walking around singing their songs with people looking at you funny.
