Fitness Fridays

I did pretty well with working out last week until I got hit with some sinus mess. That pretty much knocks me out. I ended up going to bed at 10pm last night. I haven’t done that since…ever.

The benefit to going to bed that early, though, was that I got right up this morning and got on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I need to make friends with my treadmill again because I’ve made a major fitness goal for this year.

This year, I will run a 5k. Specifically, I will run a 5k on May 23, 2009. Or May 2, 2009. I haven’t decided yet. One is a road race, the other is a grass race. Having never run either, I’m not sure if one is more difficult than the other. I’m consulting the resident expert (Dave) and waiting to hear back from him.

Based on my goal to run a 5k, I’m going to start a couple training programs. The first is the 4 Weeks to 1 Mile (4W1M) program, which I’ll follow up with the famous Couch to 5k (C25K) program.  Both programs follow a 3 day a week schedule so I think they’ll work well together.

Here are my goals for this week:

  1. Get up at 5:50am which means my head needs to hit the pillow by 11:30pm. (still trying!)
  2. Complete Week 1 of the 4W1M on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  3. Do the You Can Do It program from the February 2009 Fitness magazine on Tuesday and Thursday.
  4. Walk at least 9,000 steps a day.

    I’m with the pp – 5:30 is rough, especially if you’re only getting 6 hours of sleep. Nonetheless, congratulations and good luck! I feel inspired :O)
