Smart Habit Saturday

Always live up to your standards – by lowering them, if necessary. ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic’s Notebook, 1966

Apparently I took the whole “1 habit a month” theory and translated it into “1 post a month”.

Wowser. Anyway. About my April habit…let’s just say that my floors aren’t clean. And I still spend too much time on the computer. But I’m O.K. with that. Because my family is clothed and fed, although I did forget to turn on the crockpot last week. That was fun to discover at 6:30pm when everyone was sitting down to eat. Good times.

New month means new habit.

I feel like crap. I’m tired. I have no energy. I always feel sick. I’m constantly cranky. And it got to the point where I talked to my doctor about it. His prescription? The dreaded “E” word.

Exercise. Yes, under doctor’s orders, I must now exercise to be healthier. Imagine that. We won’t discuss that I got this prescription months ago and have yet to fill it. But I’m going to start this month. Because I need to.

I will exercise 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Oh yes I will.

No, really. I will. ‘Cause this just ain’t cuttin’ it anymore:

April Habit = Follow Cleaning Schedule
March Habit = Follow Cleaning Schedule
February Habit = Reduced Personal Computer Time
January Habit = Cut back on kids TV and computer time

  1. I think that’s a fav of doc’s to prescribe! Hopefully, with the nice weather, it will be easier to get done–just follow the kiddos!

Of course, since it’s doc’s orders, you could possibly even sign up for a class or something to fill said prescription! Good Luck!

  2. exercise is my May Habit too!

  3. You sound like me! I know what I need to be doing for my health’s sake. However, I just sit here and basically do the opposite. I’m about to share my May habit.

  4. You posted a very humorous post….and you have inspired me to do 1 habit a month b/c I am just not following through when I do try to do the weekly ones. And just an aside….you might try some 5htp. It is an amino acid that helps produce seratonin. It can be found at a health food store. Exercise also produces seratonin (and incidentally, so does carbs). That’s what we busy mamas need, though, some seratonin!!

Sorry – but I cracked up over the crock pot incident. I’ve done that with the oven, but I only lost maybe a half hour. A whole day lost due to the crock pot. That is too funny. Good luck exercising. That is not me either. But, can’t blogging count? You’re working out your fingers typing. That has to burn some calories, right? :)

  6. I think you are doing a great job. I can’t get off my computer either. Good luck to you!!

  7. Well, exercise really does make one feel better. I have to push myself too, but it’s essential for good health. Good luck. Have a great weekend. :)

  8. Woh….that’s ambitious! Good for you! And by the way, you’re not the only one who’s cranky, and sick, and lacking in energy…and did I say cranky? Sheesh, that’s me all over!

  9. Gosh I just heard that from my Dr too. I’m not doing so well with it. It’s just so hard with two little boys. I’m doing some and I do feel a little better. Good luck.

Good luck with the exercise. I’ve been trying to remember to do my Pilates video (about 10 minutes) every morning. Not a lot, but hopefully it will at least get me into the habit.
